Controversy again raged about the authority of Jesus (11 :28) and he countered the demand of the Pharisees to explain who gave him such rights to behave in the way he did by challenging the religious leaders to tell him whether John the Baptist acted with the authority of God or man. The leaders were caught in a trap and knew it-Mark gives the explanation to his readers in 11:32.
