There is now a return to the events of the Passion narrative but with John's distinctive emphases, in particular the emphasis that all that took place was fully in the control of Jesus who acted according to God's will and God's time. 'Jesus knew everything that was going to happen to him' (18:4) as he offered himself to save others from sin.
